1982 The worst Team in School History (1-24)

"This is the most embarrassing moment in Duffy sports history..."

So remarked NC assistant coach Dan Nolan as the Big Red marched toward the locker room (located outside in an adjacent  boiler facility) at Cazenovia Rink after an absurd loss to Bishop Turner 3-2.

Losing was no big deal to the '82 squad.  In fact, it was the norm.  But what made this loss so particularly galling was the fact that Turner played the entire game without a goaltender.

Actually, Turner did have a defenseman playing goal ---he just was not dressed in goaltender equipment --- and as assistant captain Rob Milne remarked later,  "he did make some huge saves."

The loss was so astonishing that it was reported on the 11'oclock news on several of the local Buffalo channels.

I can't remember much from that season, other than the losing, and the fact that our goaltender, Paul Tucker, saw more rubber than Gump Worsley did in his entire career. (Tuck - if you read this, we hope to see you one day at the Reunion Game).

Nevertheless, as captain of the '82 team, I must accept full responsibility for the event.  I therefore apologize to my teammates, coaches, alumni and accept blame for what happened.
